To receive real-time game data from Dota 2, you need to add a configuration file to your Dota 2 installation.
This is safe and supported by Valve - it's the official Game State Integration API.

Navigate to your Dota 2 configuration folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\dota\cfg\
D:\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\dota\cfg\
Copy the downloaded gamestate_integration_dota2-gsi.cfg
file into the cfg folder.
Completely close and restart Dota 2 for the changes to take effect.
Start a Dota 2 practice match or demo. The status above should change to "Connected" when working.
